McKEON® Brings Fire Door Systems Seminar to Three Alabama Cities.
In March 2026, McKEON® delivered its comprehensive five-hour seminar, “Fire Door Systems – A Guide to Code Compliance,” across three major cities in Alabama—Mobile, Birmingham (Vestavia Hills), and Huntsville. The events provided local architects, building officials, and industry professionals with valuable education in an engaging and accessible format.
Led by McKEON® Senior Business Development Manager, Doug Zachary, the 5-hour seminar focuses on salient guideline principles found in Chapters 3 through 10 and 30 of the IBC. The discussion also includes differences between NFPA 101 and IBC on a few of these issues.

“Fire Door Systems – A Guide to Code Compliance,” offered an in-depth look on designing with wide-span opening protectives, including fire and smoke rated curtain systems. Attendees benefited from an interactive and discussion driven environment, encouraging questions and real world application of code requirements.
The seminar covered a range of critical code topics, including:
- Fire Resistance vs. Fire Protection Ratings
- The Five Walls of the IBC
- Elevator Separation
- Exit Access Separation
- Vertical Opening Separation
- Occupancy Separation
- Area Separation
- Corridor Separation
- Smoke Compartmentation
McKEON® was proud to collaborate with industry partners Brian Shows and Louis Seal of Tull Brothers Inc., whose support helped ensure the success of each event.
Additional outreach and promotion were made possible through the efforts of several organizations, including AIA Mobile, AIA Huntsville, AIA Alabama, the Code Officials Association of Alabama, and the Code Officials of Lower Alabama. Their involvement helped maximize attendance and connect McKEON® with a broad audience of professionals committed to code compliance and life safety!
