McKEON® Introduces New Flush-Mount Photo Eyes

 

McKEON® is excited to introduce the QPE-TF & RF Series Flush-Mount Photo Eyes, a new thru-beam photo eye solution designed to provide a clean, low-profile installation while supporting the safety and performance requirements of modern wide-span opening protective systems.

Photo eyes are an important component of wide-span opening protective systems. They help detect obstructions within the shutter opening. However, conventional surface-mounted photo eyes extend from the mounting surface and can be exposed to contact from surrounding activity. Maintaining proper alignment is also essential to reliable photo eye operation.

The new QPE-TF & RF Series addresses these installation considerations with a single-gang, flush-mount design that integrates the photo eyes into the surrounding surface for a more streamlined profile. Available with a powder coat finish in white or any other RAL 49 Series standard color to ensure the opening protectives have compliant entrapment protection with a seamless transition to the adjacent finishes.

 

Designed for Safety and Installation Flexibility

The QPE-TF & RF Series combines a compact design with features intended to simplify installation and alignment. An easy-adjust structure allows installers to make fast and precise emitter/receiver adjustments, helping ensure proper positioning during installation.

Available in two sensing range options, the series provides flexibility for different opening configurations:

  • QPE-020TF & QPE-020RF: 10–20 ft sensing distance
  • QPE-050TF & QPE-050RF: 10–50 ft sensing distance

The photo eyes operate on 17–34 VDC and include over-voltage protection. The devices are also rated NEMA 4 and are UL 325 listed.

 

A Low-Profile Alternative to Surface-Mounted Photo Eyes

In applications where equipment is exposed to high levels of activity, maintaining a streamlined installation can be especially beneficial. By mounting the photo eyes flush with the surrounding surface, the QPE-TF & RF Series minimizes the amount of hardware projecting into the opening.

The result is a cleaner, more integrated appearance while providing a practical photo eye solution for door operators.

The compact, single-gang configuration also provides convenient installation, while the adjustable structure supports efficient emitter and receiver alignment.

Engineered for Integration

The QPE-TF & RF Series is designed for wiring to terminals P5 and P6 in McKEON®, operator control boxes, including applications such as the FS-EP Operator.

With two sensing-distance options and a flush-mount configuration, the new series provides flexibility for incorporating photo eye protection into a variety of door system applications.
