In February, McKEON® participated in the 29th annual EduCode International Conference and Exposition, held at The Orleans Hotel and Casino Conference Center in Las Vegas.
Hosted in partnership with the International Code Council (ICC), EduCODE is recognized nationwide for delivering high-quality educational training for building and fire code professionals. The conference brings together respected instructors, industry experts, and manufacturers for a week of in-depth learning, networking opportunities, and a comprehensive expo showcasing the latest products and technologies.
With more than 150 courses offered both in-person and virtually, the conference provided attendees the opportunity to earn ICC CEU credits while engaging with fellow industry professionals from across the country.

Doug Zachary of McKEON® conducted two seminars. The first, Fire resistance and Opening Protection of the 5 Walls reviewed fundamental principles found within Chapters 3 through 10 of the IBC as they pertain to the use of the five walls, their openings and opening protectives. Based on the 2024 IBC as far as references are concerned, and regardless of the current IBC edition a jurisdiction may be enforcing, this seminar addressed guideline fundamentals and has proven to be a very insightful and helpful study of core code issues. These core issues are: definition of the five walls, elevators and elevator lobbies, exit access separation, vertical opening separation, occupancy separation, area separation, corridor separation, separation of vertical spaces, smoke compartmentation and the use of smoke barriers.

The second seminar, Code Compliance with Vertical Open Spaces discussed prescriptive solutions and the related principles found in Chapter 7 of the IBC as they relate to vertical building components in Multi-story Structures. This seminar defined and examined the following vertical components; Atriums, Interior Exit Stairways, Exit Access Stairways, Elevators as well as other multi-story space considerations. During the seminar Mr. Zachary reviewed real-time case studies to explore code compliance solutions reached by various jurisdictions throughout the United States. The presentation also further discussed fire resistance and fire protection requirements for separation of vertical spaces, the 5 walls and their ratings along with opening protective requirements.
McKEON® was proud to be part of another great EduCODE conference. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect, learn, and share with industry professionals, and we look forward to returning again next year!
