McKEON helps create an open design at Edge @ BRDG.

McKEON distributor, Mays-Maune-McWard, Inc, worked alongside the architects at Lamar Johnson Collaborative, general contractor Clayco, and developer Seneca CRE on the Edge @ BRDG (Bio Research Development Growth). The Edge is a 160,000 square foot innovative lab and office building on the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center campus in Creve Coeur, MO. Because of its location the building was designed to attract science industry tenants.

A single 20’7″ wide x 26’0″ high McKEON Auto-Set® Model FSFD-TR protects the exit stairs on the first and second levels, providing a beautiful open staircase at the main entrance lobby. According to Lamar Johnson Collaborative, “The gem of this four-story tilt-up building is the main circulation stair that provides natural daylight and connects all four floors. LJC celebrated the building’s tilt-up delivery by exposing the concrete in the monument stair by creating a piece of art framed by its drywall surrounds.” The temperature rise rated fire door model is designed for openings where a temperature rise rating, as well as a fire rating, is a requirement, making it the perfect choice for this application!

Because the shape of the building created a fire risk, four FireFighter® Model D200 fire and smoke rated curtains protect the main entry curtainwall. The small hoods and guides blended into the surrounding building construction flawlessly without altering the appearance of the space. According to LJC, “The innovation was in the design and delivery of the building’s exterior curtain wall. Additionally, LJC designed cantilevered ‘legs’ to tie panels to which breaks the common rule of structural wall stereotypes.” To learn more about this cutting-edge design head to Lamar Johnson Collaborative’s project gallery!
