McKEON distributor Burgess Company worked alongside architects at The Stacy Group and general contractor W.L. McNatt & Company on a project at Piedmont High School in Piedmont, OK. An addition to the high school was completed in late 2020 which created significant improvements to the building!

Openings in 2-hour fire walls can be challenging unless you are incorporating the McKEON Auto-Set® Model FSFD fire door system. Our technology provided an opening protective rating at double the requirement! The assembly carries a UL10B rating of 3 hours and smoke labeled UL1784 while covering a 28-foot wide by 16-foot-high opening. The FSFD deploys only in the case of a fire emergency. However, a conveniently mounted key switch could also be used for security when desired.

The high school campus required security in several locations. McKEON provided three individual security grilles that are easily operated with a key.  A fourth grille that is self-opening during a fire emergency was also utilized. The uniquely placed Safescape® G1000 self-opening grille secures an area in the path of egress travel. When the building goes into alarm the grille immediately rises allowing building occupants to quickly exit the building to safety.

Do not overlook another important building feature — a tornado shelter within its walls. McKEON provided two SafeSpace™ 500 vertical rolling steel assemblies that when deployed help create the FEMA approved boundaries of an in-house shelter. Multi-purpose spaces may be designed with large unobstructed windows and light wells yet qualify as compliant safe rooms and storm shelters. Building occupants are only aware the building serves dual purpose because of signage. Large open spaces with room for innovative design features are no challenge with McKEON wide span opening protectives!
