The Five-County Building Officials Association (F.B.O.A.) in Akron, Ohio hosted their educational conference in August.
David Dodge, our VP of Business and Code Development and a certified instructor with the ICC Preferred Provider Program, was invited to present an 8-hour seminar at the conference. The curriculum was pre-approved by the Ohio Board of Building Standards. Sponsored by the local F.B.O.A. Chapter, the event – appropriately titled “Summer Hump Day Training” – took place August 3, 2022. The setting was the beautiful Legends of Massillon, a golf course and event center in Massillon, Ohio.
Joining the seminar as a participant was Dwayne Rinard, representing McKEON’s local distributor Action Door. All enjoyed a great lunch provided by the F.B.O.A. Chapter.
Attendees participated in an interactive learning experience that focused on increasing awareness of the following building code principles that are covered in Chapters 1 – 10 & 30 of the IBC:
- The why’s and how’s of the model building code development process
- History of NFPA and current enforcement of NFPA 101
- Fire-resistance versus fire-protection
- Code provisions governing wide span opening protectives
- Fundamental principles of passive redundancy
- Detailed review of the atrium provisions within the IBC
- An explanation of the myths and facts surrounding smoke and fire rated protective curtains
