David Dodge, VP of Business and Code Development at McKEON was invited to conduct a 3.5 hour training seminar.

The 47th Annual Fire and Life Safety Conference of the Illinois Fire Inspectors Association took place at the Par-a-Dice Hotel convention center in East Peoria, Illinois. Approximately 75 participants attended Mr. Dodge’s class in the afternoon of Thursday, March 21st.

Each attendee received a hard copy of the 130-page “Fire Door Systems, A Guide to Code Compliance.” This textbook explains the challenges faced when creating open design, without compromising fire and life safety. The provisions of the model building codes and NFPA 101 are referenced.

Over the course of the 3.5 hours, actual case studies from the textbook were examined and discussed. Also helpful was a review of the definitions of the five walls of the IBC and their associated opening protectives, where required, found in the appendix of the book.

The “Fire Door Systems, A Guide to Code Compliance” book has been an effective tool for teaching design teams and regulatory officials when and how to use wide-span opening protectives in accordance with the model building codes.
