Mr. David Dodge presented two seminars at the California Fire Prevention Institute annual conference in Santa Barbara, California.

The conference was hosted at the beautiful Hilton Beach Front Resort. CFPI (California Fire Prevention Institute) provided four and a half days of educational classes, awards and a vendor expo for its members. Part way through the week on Wednesday, approximately 40 people attended the first class David taught titled “Understanding the Means of Egress in the Model Building Code.” The 2-hour curriculum covered basic principles of egress as they apply the Chapter 7 of NFPA 101 and Chapter 10 of the IBC.

Next, Mr. Dodge instructed a group of 50 in a second seminar titled “The Five Walls of the IBC, A Guide to Fire-resistance & Fire Protection.” During the 2-hour presentation students discovered the difference between fire-resistance and fire-protection ratings. Each participant engaged in the learning experience gained a better understanding of the purpose of passive redundant fire prevention methods in modern building construction. Focusing on the IBC, Chapter 7, Fire and Smoke Protection Features, fire prevention personnel were guided through the process of connecting principles of NFPA 101 to the latest model building codes.

Great weather, a beautiful venue and credible instruction proved to be a perfect formula for a successful conference.
