McKEON distributor Mays Maune McWard, collaborated with Hollis + Miller Architects and Universal Construction on a new Performing Arts Center at Liberty High School in Liberty, Missouri.

McKEON’s FSFD-STC 34 acoustically rated fire door protects a large opening between the stagecraft area and the stage through which props and scenery can be easily transferred. In addition to the required fire rating, the opening protective in this location needed to be sound rated. With a 3-hour fire rating, the FSFD-STC 34 also provides the necessary sound abatement. Noise transferring from the stagecraft area to the stage during rehearsals and performances is kept to a minimum.

The opposite wall in the stagecraft section is an exterior wall that required a large opening to accommodate moving in scenery and prop materials from outside. The opening protective needed to be an insulated service door for sound abatement but fire rating was not required. The McKEON IS3018 was the perfect choice!

Fire separation was required between a commons/cafeteria area and the performing arts stage/seating area at the ground level. To accommodate the spacious connections between these two locations two 30’+ vertical coiling fire doors without egress were installed, deploying only in the case of a fire. Each FSFD carries a 3-hour rating and a UL1784 smoke label.

Lastly, the sound and light booth at the rear of the auditorium required security but needed to be visually recognizable. The McKEON SG3000 security grille easily met the need!
