McKEON presents course focused on myths and realities of curtain shutters and atrium protection.

Eric Hua of Johnson Architectural Systems worked with the City of Austin Development Services Department to host an AT200 Atrium presentation. Nearly 50 building and fire officials attended the seminar held on February 15. David Dodge, VP of Business and Code Development at McKEON, spoke about important concepts regarding atriums and fire and smoke rated fabric curtains.

The 2-hour ICC-certified seminar was divided into two parts. During the first hour participants learned about atrium provisions in detail – including the standards referencing smoke control. The second hour addressed atriums and their protectives – with emphasis on the myths and facts about fire protective curtain assemblies.

All participants took part in a discussion of the use of fire protective curtains in modern building design. A significant number of seminar attendees confirmed having participated in the code development process at the national level. Among those, many voiced appreciation that Mr. Dodge’s presentation covered the affect code changes have had on the fire and smoke rated fabric industry.

McKEON is dedicated to providing education opportunities to benefit our industry.  We offer 1-, 2-, and 5-hour seminars that are eligible for CESLU or ICC CEU credits. Our thanks to Eric for helping us get the word out.
